The graduate aptitude test in engineering (GATE) is computer based
Standardized test that primarily test the comprehensive understanding of many undergraduate subject in engineering and science. It is Conducted jointly by IISc and seven IITs on behalf of the national Coordination board- GATE department of higher Education, ministry of human resources development, govt. Of India.

The purpose of conducting this test is for PG engineering admissions, screening-level engineering job, etc.

The GATE score of a candidate reflects the performance level of a Candidate. GATE scores are being even used by several Indian public Sector undertakings i.e. government owned companies for recruiting Graduate engineers in entry level positions. It started in 1984. The Grade or score of this test is valid for two years. It is conducted once in every year (usually in February).

The rules for qualifying marks vary from year to year. The qualifying marks out of 100 are different for different subjects as well as categories.

GATE qualified students are even eligible for the award of junior research fellowship in CSIR laboratories and CSIR sponsor projects. Every year only 15% of all appearing candidates qualify this exam.

IIT Delhi established in 1961 is a public research university located in Delhi, India. It conducts various programs like bachelors Degree in Technology, the dual degree bachelor-cum-master of technology program and integrated master of technology program.

It even offers post graduate level programs like master of science, master of technology, master of science(research), MBA, master or design(industrial design). Finally it also offers a Ph. D program for research in basic science such as biological science, physical science and chemical science as well as disciplinary research including but not limited to Nano
science and Nano technology, biomedical science and bioengineering
etc.

The admission to M. tech and M. design program are mainly based  on GATE. M.sc admissions are through joint admission test for masters (JAM) and MBA admissions are through CAT.  Students securing very good Marks in these exams are later called for personal interview. GATE cut off for IIT Delhi depicts the cut off for discipline wise For each of the department for admission to M. tech courses at any Institution.

This was all about IIT and GATE now let us head towards the admission process in IIT Delhi. Well, the admission in IIT Delhi is based on how much you have scored in GATE. As IIT Delhi is one of the oldest IITs in India so the cut off mark for this IIT is very high. To get chance to pursue education from here you have to work really hard for GATE so that you can get selected for the further process of admission in IIT Delhi.

1. Clearing GATE is with good score is not your ticket to IIT Delhi rather it is just the first step.
2. Yes, after clearing GATE examination with good score you have to apply for IITs separately.
3. Out of all the applications few will be selected by the examination department of that particular IIT.
 4. If you got selected amongst those students you will be asked to again appear for an examination that will be conducted by that particular IIT. Apart from the examination personal Interview can also been done.  
5. Once you clear that examination or personal Interview then, get ready to become a part of IIT of your choice.

This was how a candidate get selected for a particular IIT but what would be the difficulty level for the individual examination and personal interview done by the IITs? Those examination and personal interview is based on the GATE entrance. 

The aim of personal interview is to check out whether the candidate is smart enough t be a part of that IIT. Difficulty level of the examination and personal interview depends on the IIT. 

Difficulty level is more old IITs and less in new IITs. As IIT Delhi is one of the old IITs then we can expect higher difficulty level from this IIT. But I guess those who have already cracked GATE entrance with good score for them it is not so tough job to clear the individual examination or Personal Interview.

Like every year this year also (2015) the number of candidates appearing for the examination is going to be increased. And this increasing number of candidates is increasing competition as well as difficulty level of the entrance examination.     

If you are planning to appear for this examination then the most important thing that you have to do is strategic preparation. The more correct strategy you will make the more easy will be the preparation for you.

Give more emphasis to the subjects that you think are you week points but on the other hand keep practicing other subjects also just to balance the preparation. Time management is must for any entrance examination and GATE is no exception to that. So, keep that on mind also.

You have to be very fast while answering the questions in the examination and for that you need proper practice. You can't be perfect in time management with just one attempt rather you have to keep on practicing various subjects keeping time management on your mind.
