Are you a physics lover, who wants to seek carrier in astronomy then here is good news for you. Government of India conducts an exam called as J.E.S.T (JOINT ENTRANCE SCREENING TEST) which offers PhD and integrated PhD courses in Physics and Theoretical Computer Science. By taking J.E.S.T you can get admission to various institutes all over India.JEST consist of two rounds, first one is main exam .It is objective type. After cracking the main exam candidates can apply for various institutes. Interviews are taken by different institutes accordingly. After selection candidates are awarded scholarship in concerned programmes.

Now let us talk about eligibility for J.E.S.T. Different institutes offer different programmes and have different eligibility criteria. 

Eligibility:

PhD Programme in Physics:

For applying to this programme candidate must have completed MSc in Physics or M.E/M.Tech in related discipline. At IIA MSc in various disciplines like Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics is also considered.

Integrated PhD in Physics:

This programme includes Master’s and Ph.D. A candidate holds B.E. or B.Tech. Degree will be eligible for consideration at IISc, IMSc, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram and SNBNCBS.
Research scholarship is provided by IUCAA for students of Talented final year B.Sc. and first year M.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied.

PhD Programme in Theoretical Computer Science:

Candidate must have done M.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. / M.C.A. in Computer Science and related disciplines.

Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech - PhD Programme:

Candidates with a Bachelor's degree can apply for integrated programme at HRI, IISER-Pune, SNBNCBS, and NCRA-TIFR institutes.
Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in science/ mathematics/computer science/information technology/Engineering will also be considered for admission in Physics and in Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc and will be given master’s degree.

Graduates in BSc physics can also apply for this programme at SNBNCBS.

At IIA graduates with M.Sc. / Post-B.Sc. in Optics and Optoelectronics / Radio Physics and Electronics / B.E. / B.Tech. Degree can apply for integrated course.
