Sales Tax Inspector examination at a Glance

MPSC is a govt body with the sole purpose to recruit applicants for the jobs in civil services for Maharashtra. It is registered as a constitutional body and focuses on appointment of candidates for helping in govt administration. MPSC conducts various different examinations for recruitment to various administrative posts.

Sales Tax Inspector examination is conducted by MPSC for appointment in the Revenue Department of Maharashtra State government. Details regarding the STI exam, syllabus are shown below.

STI exam pattern

Post of the Sales Tax Inspector comes under Group-B category of State Government. Exam pattern is decided by MPSC. Exam is conducted in three phases.
1.Pre examination
2.Mains
3.Interview
  • Pre Examination

Pre exam is conducted to sort out limited candidates for mains. For this MPSC sets a cut off and candidates qualifying cut off are considered as eligible for mains. The cut off list is made on the basic of merit list and available vacancies.

Marks obtained in the Pre exam are not added in the final score and candidates are not informed of their Pre score. They should see the eligible candidates list for Mains. If it has their name then they can consider themselves as eligible.

MPSC has made changes in the STI Pre exam pattern. Earlier the exam carried 300 marks which have now been reduced to 100 marks and duration of 1 hour. This test is called General Ability test and contains following categories:

Current Affairs : India and World
Civics : Indian Constitution at a glance, State Administration, Gram Panchayat Administration.
History : history of Maharashtra
Geography : Land, Crops, Seasons
Economics : GDP, Agriculture, Industries, Export, Import, Banking, population, BPL, Unemployment and Government Policies.
General Science : Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Hygiene
IQ and Calculus

  • STI Mains

Candidates are selected for the Mains on the basic of Pre exam result. Readers should take the note that Mains exam pattern has also changed. All the papers have been made optional.New exam syllabus will be available on MPSC official website www.mpsc.gov.in for download purpose. Following is the old exam pattern as subject won’t change much only their weightage changes. There are total two papers.

Paper 1 : It consist of Marathi and English

English : degree level paper with multiple choice questions. It is of 70 marks.
Marathi : Twelfth level paper with multiple choice questions. It is of 130 marks.

Paper 2 : General studies, IQ, optional subject

These are also multiple choice questions and consist of 200 marks in total. Following is the category of subjects coming under paper 2.

Current affairs : consists of 30 marks
Reasoning : consists of 40 marks
Geography of Maharashtra : consists of 30 marks
Administration : consists of 15 marks
Rural development : consists of 10 marks
Financial Development : consists of 15 marks.
Economics : consists of 40 marks.
Computer and Technology : consists of 25 marks.
  • Interview

Candidates shortlisted after the Mains are called for interview. Interview consists of 50 marks and is added to the total marks. Grand total consists of marks scored in Mains and Interview. Candidates will be asked questions according to their qualification that means post graduate candidates are asked more questions. Please take your documents at the time of interview or you will be not allowed to attain the interview.
